Benefits of yoga for Cervical

Sedentary lifestyles, desk jobs, and hectic schedules involving sitting in a fixed position for a long duration are taking its toll on the health of the individuals. The well-being of an individual is getting affected on all levels ranging from mental, emotional to social and physical. Watching smartphones and working on computers leads to the problems of cervical. For obtaining relief in the cervical pain people usually pop pain killer pills.

For people looking for a promising and long term solution to the problem of cervical yoga is the answer. Simple asanas in yoga help in loosening and relaxing of the joints which are still thereby providing relief in pain. The strength and flexibility of the spine increases when yoga is practiced regularly. The stress on the spine also gets relieved through yoga. The improved circulation of blood and oxygenation help in alleviating the pain. There have been reports which indicates the benefits of yoga, its improves in eliminating the symptom of the cervical problem. Given below are the asanas which when done regularly help in eliminating the cervical problems.

Cow Face Arms

Stand with your feet together. Bend your knees and kneel down. Sit on your knees keeping your spine erect. Extend your right arm to the ceiling and bend it from the elbow. Place your right hand between the shoulder blades. Now bend your left arm from below the elbow and place it between the shoulder blades. Allow the weight of your hand to make the shoulder opening deeper, without pushing hard. Try to interlock the fingers of your both hands and hold the position for 5 deep breaths. This strengthens your abdominals and relaxes the spine.

Seated Spinal Twist

Keeping your left leg straight, bend the other one across the left side so that your foot remains flat. Place your right hand on the floor behind you for better support, and turn slowly so that your left elbow is hooked to the right thigh. This helps lengthen and loosen your spine, and also helps ease stiff shoulder and neck.

Supported Fish Pose

This pose relaxes your spine and strengthens the back and neck. This is an effective yoga to reduce cervical pain. Sit on your buttocks with your feet on the floor. Slowly lie on your back and lift your pelvis slightly off the floor. Place your hands on the floor and lift it slightly above from the elbow. Your forearms should rest on the floor. Slide your palms below the buttocks for better support. Make sure your elbows and forearms are tucked close to the sides of your torso. Now press your elbows and forearms against the floor. Press your scapula into the back as you inhale. Slowly lift your head and upper torso away from the floor. The back of your head or the crown should touch the floor, depending on the way you lift your chest and arch your back. Do not put too much pressure on the neck or you may come across serious injury. Hold on to this position for 15 seconds and then slowly bring down your torso while you exhale. You can also try this pose by placing medium-height blocks under your back and the head for support.

A healthy diet comprises of essential vitamins and nutrients which are essential for the overall health of an individual. Besides yoga, incorporating food products which help in reducing the symptoms of the cervical problem is essential. Lack of proper nutrients may also be one of the reasons why cervical problem develop easily in people of today's day and age. Food products that are rich in proteins like pulses, vitamin C like oranges when included in the diet help in improving the bone matrix.

Calcium and vitamin D rich food like low-fat milk when added to the diet help in enhancing the health of the bones. Garlic is known to have strong anti-inflammatory properties thus including it in the diet proves to be very beneficial since it helps in providing relief from the pain. For combating the joint inflammation, food products rich in omega -3 and vitamin E must be included in the diet. Green vegetables not only have essential vitamins and minerals they also boast anti-inflammatory properties. Thus including them in the diet can prove to be very beneficial. If any medicine is prescribed by the doctor for the treatment then it must be taken regularly as per the advice of the doctor since it can play a pivotal role in alleviating the cervical problem.
