Seated Cat/Cow Pose

This is a modified form of the normal cat/cow yoga pose. For elderly people who face difficulty getting to the floor, the seated version of this yoga is an easier option. Start by sitting on a chair or a mat. Now keeping your arms straight, place your hands on the knees. Keep your spine erect. Lift your spine gently and bend backwards as you breathe in. Lift your breastbone slightly up to the front and allow your head and neck to lengthen out and back. Now as you breathe out, draw your abdomen inwards, towards the spine. Allow your middle back portion to move backwards and drop your chin towards the chest. Repeat the movement alternately, shifting from cow to cat pose. This relaxes your shoulders and improves flexibility.

Thread The Needle

This releases tension in the joints and muscles of your shoulder, and naturally reduces pain. Start on all fours. Place your wrist under the shoulder and the knee below your hips. Lift your right hand and move it over to your left along the floor. Make sure your palm is facing up. Keep your left hand pressed against the floor for better support, and rest your body on the right shoulder. Look over to your left and hold the position for about 30 seconds. Slowly release the posture and repeat the same on your other side.

Conclusion

If someone says that besides yoga eating a healthy diet can have a positive effect on the pain of the shoulder then no one would believe. But it is true, fortunately, there are some of the food products that are not only good for the overall health of a person but they also have other properties that may help in providing relief from the pain. The omega-3 fatty acid has a proven track record of having pain relieving properties. Fish like sardine must be included in the diet of a person. Broccoli has proven credentials of being a healthy food product. Thus incorporating a salad of broccoli in the diet can work wonders. Dry fruits like walnuts also have a positive effect on shoulder pain. Greeny leafy vegetables are always helpful in making a person healthy.

There are some green leafy veggies like spinach which must be included in the diet as it only has nutritional benefits but it also has anti-inflammatory properties. Apart from eating healthy, the oil in which the food is cooked must also be as good as the diet. Therefore cooking food in olive oil can have several benefits as it not only reduces the symptoms of the shoulder pain but it also helps in providing relief from the pain due to anti-inflammatory properties.
