Benefits of yoga for wheezing

Yoga and breathing go hand in hand whenever there is a problem which involves breathing difficulty, yoga can surely treat that condition. There have been studies which indicate positive effects of yoga in a person suffering from the problem of wheezing. The exercises in yoga offer a natural relief in the problem of wheezing.

Whatever may be the reason for the occurrence of wheezing, yoga helps in alleviating the reason. By regular practice of yoga, opening of lungs takes place which increases the width of the airways thereby promoting natural breathing. Yoga improves the blood circulation in the body which helps in improving the oxygen flow thereby assisting in regular breathing. Forward Bend

The forward bending pose helps release stress from the upper body hence opening up the lungs and making the airways wider to encourage normal breathing. Start the pose in a standing position with your legs apart; gradually bend forward, bending the knees a little to avoid straining them. Try touching your feet with your hands or touch the floor and hold the position for 30 seconds..

Cobra Pose

The cobra pose or Bhujangasana improves circulation, helps in regulation of breathing and flow of oxygen throughout the body. This pose expands the passageways of the lungs, improves flexibility of muscles and stretches out the muscles of your thoracic region to alleviate wheezing.

Easy Pose

The Easy pose is very simple yoga pose that focuses on your breathing and hence helps to regulate asthma and bronchitis symptoms which in turns helps with wheezing. It is excellent for controlling stress and relaxing your muscles thus keeping internal triggers for wheezing in control. Start in a seated position; cross your legs and keep your hands on top of your knees. Then breathe in and out deeply in a rhythmic fashion for about 3 minutes.

Bridge Pose

The bridge pose is a great yoga pose for wheezing symptoms because it helps expand the lungs and stretches out the chest and upper body to aid in opening up of the narrowed airways and hence helps to breathe easily without any wheezing. Begin the pose by lying on your back; bend your knees while keeping your hands by your side. Gradually lift your hips off the floor, making sure that your thighs are parallel to the floor. Hold for 30 seconds and as you lower to the ground, exhale.

Apart from yoga consuming a healthy diet is necessary for the overall benefit of the body. For people suffering from the problem of wheezing, there are certain food products which are both healthy and provide assistance in relieving the symptoms of the condition. Including whole grains like quinoa and brown rice in the diet helps in lowering the stress on the lungs thereby promoting healthy breathing.

Addition of beans into the diet is an excellent option as it comprises of antioxidants like zinc, manganese, and selenium which boosts the breathing capability of the lungs.

Addition of nuts is an excellent choice as it is a rich source of vitamin E. Nuts help in providing a persistent oxygen supply to the blood vessels in the lung thereby preventing them from constricting so that breathing can be normal.
