Benefits of yoga for stomach gas

A person may feel bloated and uncomfortable due to stomach gas being trapped inside. If this condition is occurring frequently then it may be due to improper eating habits or some disease which triggers symptoms like bloating. Sometimes a person on several medications for different diseases complains about stomach gas as it may be one of the side effects of those medicines. The problem of stomach gas should not be ignored as it may be indicating any problem with the digestive system. In such a scenario yoga offers an excellent solution for alleviating the problem of stomach gas. There are some asanas in yoga that stretch and massage the abdominal region thereby helping the stomach gas to pass out. Often bloating and stomach gas are related to stress and anxiety.

Yoga helps in keeping the mind stress free and calm thereby providing necessary help in the problem of stomach gas. Usually gas and bloating are the secondary symptoms of constipation. Yoga helps in improving the functioning of the digestive system allowing proper bowel movement. This relieves an individual of constipation thereby alleviating the problem of stomach gas. Balasana Or Child Pose

This yoga pose mimics the posture of a child, which explains the name. The Sanskrit work тАЬbalтАЭ means child in English. You have to sit on your knees with your legs tucked under your thighs. There should be a hip-length gap between your knees. Now breathe in deeply and stretch your hands above your head and conjoin your palms. Exhale while you slowly bring your arms down till they, along with your forehead, rest on the floor, and your stomach lays on your thighs. Hold this pose for a while and focus on your breathing.

Pavanamuktasana Or Wind Releasing Pose

An easy to do yoga that massages your stomach and digestive system, thereby, helping you to release excessive air. The Sanskrit name itself says it all, as, тАЬpavanaтАЭ when translated to English means wind, тАЬmuktaтАЭ means freeing and тАЬasanaтАЭ is the posture or the means to the end. Lie down flat on the mat and relax. Bring your legs together and lift them up. As they lie mid-air, bend your knees and bring them to your chest. After this hug your knees to your chest and inhale and exhale deeply. As pressure is exerted to your stomach and lower abdomen, the excess wind gets released. It also stimulates better digestion.

Paschimottanasana Or Seated Forward Bend Pose

This pose also works to massage your stomach and it helps you to release stress as well. Sit upright with your legs stretched in front of you. Now lower down your torso till your head meets your knees. Place your hands across the sides of your legs and hold your feet. Stretch as far as possible and you can bend your knee a little during the first few times. Be comfortable, but make sure that you feel the stretch. Eventually you will gain flexibility and be able to perform this routine seamlessly.

The most common reason for frequent stomach gas is the dietary choice that an individual makes. Apart from yoga, fortunately, there are certain food products when added to the diet help the digestive system in calming down. Foods rich in insoluble fiber like in whole wheat, and brown rice prevent the formation of gas. Including peppermint tea soothes several woes of the stomach along with helping in the prevention of the gas. Fruits which belong to the category of non-gassy are kiwi, pineapple, strawberry, and blueberries.

Addition of these fruits can be beneficial in eliminating the problem of stomach gas. Fermented food products like yogurt must be added to the diet as they help in improving the gut flora. Increasing the intake of water can be very beneficial in alleviating the problem of stomach gas. Water is known to improve the functioning of digestive system and drinking sufficient amount of water helps in moving the food into the gastrointestinal tract at a brisk pace which keeps gas at bay. If a person is taking any medicine for the problem of stomach gas then it must be taken regularly as advised by the doctor.
