Hi. I had removed my braces (1.5 years I worn) on 13-05-2017. Doctor has taken measurement for retainers. But still not fixed. I was showing in Dental practice college. My question is how long time I can sustain without retainers? Is there any time to put it after removing? Or I can put it any time after removing? Or is it necessary to wear? Pls suggest?

Hi Mr. lybrate-user, retainer are very important part of orthodontic treatment and should be placed immediatly after removing braces. In fact there are cases in which we place fixed lingual retainers before removing the braces. Yes it is neccesary to wear retainers, because your teeth tends to shift to it's original position. If your dentist is fabricating a removable retainer try wearing it for as much as possible for the first 6 months. After that you can wear it during nights. Hope this helps.
