Deficiency of vitamin D may cause not exactly the Depression but it may cause symptoms like depression. It may be balanced by taking the supplements containing vit D3 i. e. Cholecalciferol. One must sit in sunlight also at least for half an hour daily with maximum skin exposure. Time to reach up to the normal level depends on the current level of this vitamin in the blood.

this has been overhyped off late, driven by a lobby. The correlation is very poor between Vit D and depression. Check your Vit D levels in 2 labs same time, if less take bit D. Get your depression treated separately . All the best
