Hi My age is 33. I have most of my work on laptop and gadgets. My number is L4/-3.75. My number increase by 0.25 every 3-4 years. Just now an optician told me that I have a cylindrical number also of 0.25 in each eye. Is it normal that number increase at this age? Can I pursue lasik to normalise my number? Thanks.

My dear friend lybrate-user, At the age of 33 with computer profession with mild increase in power af 0.25. But this is happening every 3-4 years. That means over a period of last 10 years your power had changed in the range of approximately -1. Increase in power of -1 over period of last 10 yes is something significant and defiantly requires investigation. As the power keeps on increasing till the age of 33 ;are we dealing with some ting called as pathological myopia or do you have other body illness which is disturbing and having effect on your eye. Which is secondarily leading to increase in power. This is something which requires through investigation; detail eye check up including your peripheral retinal examination and if required some blood tests .but the most important thing is your detail history. Which might point towards some illness at present or in past or it could be some indication of future disease which is not yet menifested. So my dear friend possibilities are endless and can be confirmed by examination in person. As far as lasik is concerned. 2 readings should be stable done at an interval of 6 months .that will tell us that probably your power is stabilised and after doing certain pre lasik investigations if you pass that test. That means you become a good candidate for lasik surgery. But in your case if recently you have developed cylindrical power also. Which was done by optician. It is advisable to confirm your power from anow eye doctor and really if you have this and also your power has changed grossly over period ;this warrents detail check up. Lasik is an cosmetic surgery but doing lasik will not answer the cause of your problem.
