Hello Dr. I have ice pick scars and boxcar scars on my face like nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead and my skin is very sensitive, I am afraid of using creams and laser treatments. So instead of taking laser, fractional/fraxel laser, fractional co2, TCA chemical peeling, IPL treatment can I go for microneedling/dermapen or can I use dermaroller for ice pick scars and boxcar scars? Will needling and dermaroller helps in preventing scars? Will scars do completely disappear and do they produce new collagen and improve skin texture? And if I go with needling/derma roller what kind of cream do I need to apply after I use roller or needling? Will they have any side effects? If you advice me to go with needling/derma roller, suggest me best dermaroller? And please help me and suggest the best treatment process. Thank you.

Hello, There are various treatments for acne scars which include creams, chemical peels, microdermaabrasion, microneedling, radiofrequency, surgery, fat fill, laser etc. TCA peels do help with ice pick scars, CO2 laser though is a good option it cannot be used in all skin type due to risk of hyperpigmentation. The redness following the laser may last upto 3 months and usually subside. Microneedling Radiofrequency therapy is a good option for collagen induction. Only microneedling gives moderate results and derma pen is better option than dermaroller. There are some skin repair creams with growth factors which help in collagen production after microneedling. What you need to understand is no therapy is perfect a combination of treatment give satisfactory results. Tretinoin creams in long term are also good option to improve the scars but needs to be stopped prior to any procedure. A photograph would help assess you better. Consult a dermatologist.
