Life style modification if done regularly and scientifically can not only control your blood sugars well to maintain HBA1C below 7% but can also help in reducing medicines and to some extent reversing the disease .If your parents do not have any heart problems or knee joint problems then going for walk 45 minutes to 1 hr may help in improving quality of life and may be in weight reduction. Regular Exercise especially leg exercises are very helpful in diabetic patients along with regular meditations. Ideally diabetic diet should contain as many colorful vegetables and fruits as possible as every color has different vitamins and phyto medicine and helps in protecting the immunity. A person with diabetes can almost eat all fruits but high glycemic index fruits like banana ,mango, cheeku should not be eaten with meals but can be eaten 2 hrs after meals in calculated portions. High fibre, high protein, fat restricted and refined sugary carbohydrate restricted diet with lots of variety always helps in reducing glucose load and better control. Its balancing total coloric consumption per day with various food options in controlled portion size with disciplined exercise and regular monitoring to prevent or reverse the complications of diabetes on heart, kidney, eyes, skin, joints foot ,brain etc.
