I have BP and tachycardia, the doctor has prescribed metalor XR 50 once daily and Ivabrad 5 mg twice daily. My concern, is it safe to take them as mechanism of both the medicine is reducing heart rate.

Based on Clinical Trials, Ivabradine on top of Beta blockers, like Metoprolol, have been advocated for the management of Chronic Stable Angina and Chronic Heart Failure, when the resting heart rate remains more than 70 beats per minute despite the patient taking sufficient doses of Beta blockade. In your case, before adding Ivabrad, Metolar could have been increased to 50 mg twice a day, provided your clinical status allowed for that, which your doctor, I believe, must have considered.
