Hi, I am 28 years old, 169 CM and 75 KG and Unmarried. I recently found that I have hypothyroidism TSH value as 6.1. Doctor recommended me to take Thyronorm 50 mcg tablets in empty stomach for 3 months. I started from 2-June-2018. It's around 33 days now and I haven't skipped any dose. Now I have below concerns. 1) My sperm quality is reduced, it's transparent and more liquid. And I am not getting mood like previous days. Will it come to normal? Is this due to the tablets? 2) Doctor said my weight will be reduce after taking the tablet, but I am not seeing any difference. And still I have dry skin and feeling bloated many times.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Usually with TSH 6.1 mU/L, there is no treatment advocated, because it is considered as sub-clinical hypothyroidism. However, if there are any of the troublesome symptoms of hypothyroidism are present then, treatment with Levothyroxine is initiated. Once treatment is started, after 6 to 8 weeks TSH should be checked. Ideally it should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L, to be free from all the symptoms of the disease. If hypothyroidism is uncontrolled then it can lead to weight gain, dry skin, dry hair, hair fall, early fatigue, tiredness, anxiety. Occasionally may affect sexual desire. There is no direct effect on sperm quality or quantity. Plus treatment with Thyroxine is not going to cause any problems which you have mentioned. Thanks.
