I am having Thyroid since 6-7 years and it shoots up as I stopped taking pills for that, unknowingly. Now I am having problems like breathlessness, chest pain with left hand and half headache. My palm having burning sensation, swelling in feet. Drowsiness and uneasiness occurred very frequently. What should I do? I am taking Eltroxin 100 mcg regularly now.

Lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. For patients with hypothyroidism it is necessary to take adequate dose of thyroxine for lifetime. If it is stopped then TSH level will go up plus all the symptoms of that condition will reappear. It is essential to maintain TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L to be free from all the symptoms. Since there is no mention of current TSH level, it is difficult to comment about the reasons for various complaints that you are having now. Thanks.
