From my graduation I used to drink & smoke. Last year on the month of May-June I fell mentally & physically sick. I was working in a company and there I fell into political issues. I was supposed to become Training Manager but they hired other person before my promotion. I was deeply shocked and increased smoking and drinking alcohol. I used to hear voices and see girls. When I consulted with a psychiatrist, he told me that probably I m suffering from Schizophrenia. After that I started taking medicines. I felt much better but I faced problem in nerves. I got too weak. Then I changed the doctor & medicines. Now I don't hear any voices. I am fine now but I have fear in going out of station, to do job. I don't like to work and feel sleepy. Please suggest and guide me how can I be mentally and physically fit.

I hope you are undergoing what is called toxic psychosis due to the extensive use of alcohol. It manifests primarily in the form of paranoid schizophrenia. This has a duration of two years only and it could just disappear the way it came, if you conducted yourself well. But the residual effects of alcohol abuse may then lead to depression and generalized fear. You must go for counseling in conjunction with the medication. You must quickly get on to a tight time schedule of interesting and productive activities. While working with the counselor you should learn about emotions and how to express them in all circumstances. Physical exercises is a must and your fitness will empower you with confidence. You need to learn how to budget your income, to learn new ways of enjoying life without chemical intoxication, be responsible with whatever you do, improve relationships with people, and learn to love yourself. Do a lot of left brain exercises to keep yourself on the logical side. You may attend new courses that enhance your skill set and qualification. All these measures must be implemented for at least three years for you to completely come out of the effects of excessive alcohol abuse, and alcoholism. In case it is not toxic psychosis, you are likely to have a lifelong issue with schizophrenia and the medication and counseling must continue until you are totally functional.Â
