Hi, I have a health concern about my mother She is 52 and has lost a lot of weight in the last few months. She is also a sugar patient. Her sugar levels are now normal but previously it was about 240. And she is also taking medicines for depression For the past 15 years. The meds are sizopin and nitravet. She also smokes excessively throughout the day. She has been smoking for the past 5 years but never lost weight. Again I would like to tell you even though she has been taking these meds and smoke g she has never lost weight. But her weight has dropped drastically since the past few months. She has always been a healthy lady (as in weight) But now we can see her veins. Please help me what should I do. What kind of tests do we need to run. Do we need to consult the psychiatrist or a nutrition expert or general physician. Please help me.

Yes, she does need help to overcome the depression and smoking habit. It needs lot of patience to bring the patient back to the healthy track. Please talk to your doctor and discuss about her overall health and how to manage things with a definite plan. Only medicines would not be sufficient, she needs counselling so that she can talk freely about her stress and concerns and learn how to handle them with understanding and clarity of thought. She should also start exercising (at least for 30 mins) as it is a very good immune booster, improves the mood in the long run and helps to support the overall well-being. A dietician can also help to create a list of her favourite food with calorie restriction (a balanced diet) so that she maintains good weight. You can also add Homeopathy if needed as it is holistic in its approach and helps natural healing. A detailed consultation will help to select remedies that suit her constitution. You can contact me for a detailed consultation.

Uncontrolled sugar can also cause weight loss and also chronic smoking. Also get a chest X-ray (to rule out Tuberculosis and other chest issues) alongwith Ultrasound Abdomen.
