Hi doctor, My question us regarding the health of my 93 year old grandmother. She is having alzheimer for last 3 years. Now she is not able to recognize any of us, do not remember day, time, place, names, nothing. But she is able to listen and respond. She talks very little unless we ask something. She can't hear unless we speak in loud voice. She used to walk her own till last month. She fell 3 weeks before and was suffering from pain around hip, buttocks and thigh areas. Her x-ray showed no fracture. Were taking pain killers for 2 weeks, no relief yet, we consulted another doctor, now she is on new medication. Still having pain. Cannot sit or get up on her own. Can't even sit in toilet. We use diapers now. For last two days she has not gone to toilet. But is urinating and eating good food. She is sleeping all the day, not deep sleep, but still don't use to open her eyes even of we call her. She has little 'doz- offs' every time. But sometimes she is okay, like in morning. We are totally worried about her health. How long will she be able to live in this condition. We need to see her healthy and happy. Is there any chance for her to live a few more years. How long one can survive in last stage dementia. She is eating food, going to toilet twice or thrice a week and have no other health issues like diabetes, cholesterol or pressure etc. Could you please help me by suggesting what can we do for prolonging her life for more time. We need her. What can we do for her.
