This is the basic difference between a human being and a machine. You cannot just erase the hard drive. If you try to banish your memories actively, actually you would be indulging in the memory of the event. You need to change the way you look at things.

Hi. At times we go through certain incidents that leave a mark on us. Much as we may want to, it is difficult to forget them. However, we can do the following things to help ourselves:- - Acknowledge our feelings of pain, hurt, disappointment, guilt, shame etc and know that it wasn't our fault. We all are human and sometimes despite our best intentions, things don't go the way we had hoped. Everything is not in our control. - Allow ourselves the permission and time to heal and come to terms with the incident and it's impact on us instead of blaming ourself for allowing something like that to happen to us. During this time, it is good to slow down and take things one at a time instead of expecting ourself to be fully functional. - Although the hurt and pain may give rise to feelings of helplessness and anger or the need for revenge, it only prolongs our misery. Our energy gets trapped in thoughts of the other person or the incident. Our life starts getting defined in terms of that one incident although there is so much more to us and our life then just that. Learning from the incident and growing as a person makes us better individuals who can be a source of strength and support to others as well. - Lastly talking to trusted friends or family members who will understand, not judge you and support you through this tough time also helps a lot. - We can also consult a psychologist if we feel that we are deeply affected and not being able to handle ourselves. Hope this helps. All the best and take care.
