Hey lybrate-user Creatine is an amino acid located mostly in your muscles & brain tissue. It facilitates recycling of adenosine triphosphate (ATP- chemical that provides energy to drive many processes through your body). Creatine is not an essential nutrient. As it is naturally produced in the human body from the amino acids glycine, arginine and methionine. It can be obtained through the diet through fish/ shell fish/ meat. Creatine synthesis primarily occurs in the liver and kidneys. Most of creatine is stored in the muscle and the remaining is distributed in the brain, liver, kidney. Creatine acts as a very RAPID, but LIMITED source of energy for very high intensity muscle contractions and it is thought to work by increasing the body's store of Creatine-Phosphate. Creatine-Phosphate provides energy rapidly when doing high intensity explosive movements like sprinting/jumping. But creatine stores gets depleted rapidly and so does your ability to produce energy quickly declines.
