My daughter aged 35 years has having thyroid for the last 10 years and have been taking eltroxin 25 daily morning, as per doctor's advise. Now she has stopped taking the same for the last 15 days. Will it be any problem? She is a mentally retarded and not taking blood test. Kindly give your opinion in this matter. Tk you dr.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Hypothyroidism is a hormonal deficiency disorder. Because this hormone is required every day for various important metabolic functions in the body, it has to be supplemented every day for life time. Plus once in a while TSH level needs to be checked to see that it is within the specified level of 3 to 4 mU/L. If treatment is discontinued then that can lead to serious issues. So please restart and get the TSH level checked early. Thanks.
