I suffered a bout of depression from the year 1992 to 2000. At that time the doctors prescribed me antidepressant tablets. How ever, when the effect of the tablet wears off the mood swings came back. During 2003 due to emotional stress my ordinary depression turned in to psychotic depression. Now I am having insomnia, no mood swings. I ma taking tablets oleanze10 mg and lonazep 2 mg. This gives me reasonable amount of sleep. But as a side effect pof these medicines I am having constipation. I am lacking in confidence and fed up with life. I am having some memory problems also. Please let me know how to come out of this situation.

Dear Lybrate user, it appears that you are on medication for depression for some time. In my opinion, it will be very helpful if you start some counselling/therapy sessions along with the medication. The medicines will work on you body and the therapy will help you to be more aware of your own thouhgts and feelings. The therapy will also help you to bring helpful changes in your behaviour. Your psychiatrist and your counsellor will work as a team for you and may be your medication can be tapered down. Please check with you psychiatrist regarding counselling services.
