Hi, I am 4o years my tsh is 9.i am taking thyronorm 50 mg. Kindly advice if I need to continue medicine for life long. Also advice if any other medicine can be taken.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. Tsh 9 mu/l is high, suggesting present dosage of levothyroxine 50 mcg is inadequate. Tsh should be maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l for being free from symptoms of hypothyroidism. Another important aspect is your bmi, which is 30.15 kgs/sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/sq meter), showing grade 1 obesity. This is probably the result of uncontrolled hypothyroidism. Treatment of hypothyroidism has to be for lifetime as it is a hormone deficiency disorder. Thanks.

You need to uptitrate your dose to maintain your tsh between 1 & 2. This has to be continued lifelong.
