The patient is on paroxetine 75 mg in connection with anxiety and dysphoria. We need one more mood stabilizer to be used concomitantly with paroxetine. We wish to get an antidepressant which can increase the serotonin levels. Could you please suggest an ssri or any other drug whose mechanism of action is based on serotonin. Already tried vilazodone. Thank you.

Better to explore the stress factors, try for cbt sessions, rather increase more and more drugs (with high doses). Better to develop and adopt problem-solving skills, along with medicine. You can use snri along with paroxetine if required.

What is the need for mood stabilizer, if the patient is maintaing well with single ssri? Mood stabiliser is required if there is an inadequate response to adequate dose and duration of ssri. If there is family history of bipolar disorder. If there is ssri induced hypomanic episode. If there is any evidence of bipolar depression better try lithium.
