Diagnosed as diabetic one year ago. Taking one joten 20 mg tablet before break fast and one glycomet 250 mg before dinner. I am 54 years old. Hba1c =7.4. Should I increase dosage to 2 nos joten, 1 in morning and 1 in night and avoid glycomet. mother was diabetic since she was 26 years old and passed away when she was 58 years due to cardiac arrest.

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details, only hba1c% (7.4%) is mentioned, which is fairly fine. Ideally it should be <7% or better if < 6.8%. There is no mention of current fasting or pp glucose levels. Another seriously important aspect is your grade 2 obesity, with a bmi of 32.287 kgs/sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/sq meter), you have an excess of 30 plus kgs. This is the major reason for not having good glucose control. A 5 to 8 % weight reduction will give you much better glycemic control and reduction if hba1c%. There is no need to change any medication. Please give a closer look at your dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise, that should be more beneficial. Thanks.
