My father is 61 years old with fasting blood glucose level 308 mg/dl and post prandial level 484 mg/dl. He has been diabetic for over 7 years and takes gluconorm 1gram everyday. He has normal serum creatinine and urea levels and doesn't have drowsiness fatigue or any such symptoms. Please advise us any solution for the above problem. Thank you.

Hello, thanks for the query. Madam with such high blood glucose (fbg 308 mg & pp 484 mg/100 ml), he is bound to have serious problems due early setting in of long term complications associated with diabetes. Ideally fasting glucose should be < 100 mg or closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 170 mg & hba1c% (not mentioned) <7.%. He lucky that there are no such symptoms noticed as yet. But he is definitely heading for serious consequences if blood glucose is not maintained as mentioned earlier. It is clear that present treatment is inadequate and needs urgent up grading. So please approach his physician and get the upgrade done or else, if online advice is desired, then please come back with following details: current fasting & pp glucose levels, hba1c%, lipid profile, serum creatinine, urea and bp readings, weight, height, dietary pattern, extent of daily exercise. Then I will be able to give specific guidance. Choice is yours. But please do not ignore and delay the upgrade. Also get his retina checked to rule out any involvement.
