My friend was diagnosed with severe depression and she was prescribed lamotrigine/lamictal. She abuses her medication by crushing up her pills and sniffing them. What will happen if she keeps doing this?

Dear Lybrate User, Please inform Liliana that the tablet has to be swallowed. If she still takes the tablet by sniffing, it is okay. Something is better than nothing. But we can not be sure about the dose absorbed by sniffing. If you have therapeutic blood level monitoring facility, it will be good to do it.

Firstly how old is your friend. What extra benefit is he or she getting by sniff. Does he or she sniff anything else. Take to a psychiatrist again.
