Myself suffering from bipolar disorder & taking medications from last 5 years. Currently I am taking lithium & lamotrigine from 2 months which is doing good. Recently my doc added sizodon 0.5 mg in evening which is helping in improvement but wakes me in midnight or early morning and after that I can't sleep, so this way my average sleep is only 4 hrs from last 2 weeks pls suggest how handle this problem. Thanks, zeeshan.

Dear Zeeshan, Nice to know that you are doing good with lithium and lamotrigine. Do not worry much about your sleep. It will improve as your mood is stabilised. It is just 2 months of mood stabilisers. With 4 hours of sleep, i hope you are doing, all your routine work and fulfilling your responsibilities. If not, please discuss with your doctor. He might temporarily increase sizodon dose for few weeks.

Hello lybrate-user, sizodon should cause sleep, but your sleep seems to be disturbed. First thing I would suggest is to go back to your psychiatrist and tell your problem, since they have your entire history they can guide you better. Meanwhile you can follow some sleep hygiene. 1. Sleep and wake up at the same time. Even if you sleep late just wake up at the fixed time. 2.don't look at the watch repeatedly during the night. 3. Do not at any cost sleep in the day time 4.make sure your room is dark 5.no television, phone or laptop 2 hrs before bed. 6.no tea / coffee or any caffeinated item after 4 pm 7.try and go for a walk in the morning after you wake up. Consult your doctor if the problem persists.

If you were taking lithium and lamotrigene from 2 months and were doing good, then you should have enquired about the rationale with using an added medication like sizodon 0.5 mg. If it was due to sleep issues that you were prescribed those medications, I wonder if you need a different medication for insomnia. Kindly contact us for more details. Look forward to hearing from you.
