HELLO ABHISHEK! CANNABIS INTAKE FOR SUCH A LONG TERM IS NOT AT ALL GOOD . FOR DEPRESSION AND ADAMANT NATURE ; I CAN GIVE HIM PERFECT HOMEOPATHIC SIMILIMUM WHICH WILL REDUCE HIS DESIRE TOWARDS CANNABIS .EVEN WILL IMPROVE HIM BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY TOO. EVEN CLINICAL COUNSELLING WILL BE HELPFUL FOR HIM . HERE THROUGH COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY ;WE CAN STOP HIM FROM GOING TOO WORSE. HIS NEGATIVE ASPECT TOWARDS LIFE WILL BE CHANGED INTO POSITIVE THINKING WHICH WILL DEFINETELY GIFT HIM A POSITIVE AND HEALTHY LIFE . AS HE IS ONLY 20 YRS OLD; HE NEEDS EARLIER PLAN OF TREATMENT .RATHER THAN TAKING ANTI PSYCHOTIC MEDICINE IN SUCH AN EARLY AGE ;YOU CAN THINK OF SAFE TREATMENT ; HOMEOPATHY WILL BE MORE HELPFUL .

The psychiatrist must have had some logic for giving risperidone. Although it is not routinely given for depression. It depends on the dose. In doses upto 1 mg or 2 mg it is safe to give. Please consult your psychiatrist for further advice and information.

Medications will help in overcoming widrawal symptoms if he trys to leave the drug, but for helping him to come out of drug intensive psychotherapy will also be needed. Thus I would suggest the therapy sessions as well. The sessions will help him to understand the major core causes leading to his addiction and thus will help him to come out of it.
