Anxiety disorder present for more than one year us usually long term or life term due to serotonin imbalance in the brain. It is like diabetes or hypertension, medications need to be taken as per the advise of the psychiatrist for long time. There won't be any issues. Good luck.

Your mother is on the right medications if her anxiety is under control after a trial of at lest 20 to 30 days on the medications. There are many alternatives with regards to therapy i.e. Meditation, yoga, mindfulness, counseling or psychotherapy, etc, however any permanent cure or treatment for anxiety professed by anyone would be a false assurance. Anxiety, if left untreated might get worse and hamper day to day activities, like it probably had when your mother started taking the medications. I hope this answered your question.
