Hi thanks for the query it's always better to keep bp around 130/80 so you have increase the dosage. Add telmisartan 40 mg at night. Check your renal function tests and potassium before adding this. For further queries please contact me.

Your bp is on the higher side. Make sure you are taking medication regularly. Also reduce the dietary salt intake to 2-3gm per day. Regular exercise also improves bp. Since your weight is 10 kg above the ideal level for your height, exercise is very important. Even after following all these instructions if your bp is high we need to add second bp medication.

Hello, thanks or the query. I have seen the query. You only mentioned about bp reading, nothing about glucose levels and treatment for diabetes. It is possible that present drugs (metoprolol+ telmisartan) are not adequate in controlling the bp. There may be an additional drug needed. Secondly looking at your height & weight with a bmi of 27.3 kgs /sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/sq meter), you are over weight by well over 12 kgs. Hence, if weight is reduced that would help in better control of bp as well as blood glucose. Thanks.

Hi lybrate-user, I am Dr. alwin christopher, a geriatrician from udumalpet what I understood from your question is that, without taking metasartan, your bp is 155/95. For a diabetic, bp should be maintained below 130/90, so will definitely need a bp tablet. I suggest you to continue your previous drug metasartan as before.

On metosartan your blood pressure is high. It is recommended that you meet your doctor for further dose adjustments. Depending on your kidney, heart profile and symptoms, your doctor can add another medicines like amlodipin 5 mg once a day. But it is recommended that you do not increase any medicines without your doctor’s permission as it may cause some discomfort. At home you can restrict salt intake in the diet till you consult your doctor.
