I am diabetic and take metformin 1000 mg at night and 500 mg at morning and vobose 0,2 before lunch. I started doing intermittent fasting ie after lunch do not take food till next day breakfast almost leaving a gap of 16-18 hours. Since I am skipping dinner, can I skip the medicine too? I checked sugar levels - it is not increasing or falling down drastically. Please advice on progressing with intermittent fasting (16: 8)

Hello, Thanks for the query. Since you are doing intermittent fasting, it is better to avoid medication at night. Both metformin and voglibose do not lead to hypoglycemia and are usually to be taken with food (particularly Voglibose), skipping food needs skipping the medication. Thanks

Considering your bmi looks like slightly overweight, any kind of fasting is not advisable for diabetic patients. Initially blood sugar can be controlled. But on long term you get varying blood sugar values which may lead to heart problems. So better go for 3 meals a day.
