My brother takes paroxetine cr 75 mg. He has anxiety and dysthymia for last 3 years. Actually he still does not feel well, but our doctor told that he has treatment resistant depression. Doctor also noticed that he is responding only to search (only partially though) doctor has recently prescribed escitalopram 10 mg. My concern is, both medications are now ssri. So can the two ssri be given together? Thanks.

Generally two drugs of the same class are not prescribed. But, in this case, since your brother has resistant depression, this combination might become helpful as these two drugs have slightly different pharmacological profile.
