Hello, thanks for the query. Please clarify following points: 1) is this first time you have checked thyroid function test? What are the t3 & t4 levels? 2) the recommendation of levothyroxine by the doctor is because you have tsh 3.99 mu/l only or is that you have been on the treatment earlier also and now the doctor has adjusted the dosage? The reason I am asking these questions is -1) hypothyroidism is diagnosed only when tsh is > 10mu/l and above, plus patient complains of symptoms of that condition. 2) if tsh is between 6 to 9.99 mu/l and t4 is in the normal range, then that is considered as sub-clinical hypothyroidism and usually no treatment is advised, unless there are troublesome symptom are present. So unless these things are clear, I can not comment. However, if the levothyroxine being advised just because tsh is 3.99 mu/l without ay previous treatment then it is not correct. I await your response. Another important aspect, since you are 31 years of age and planning for a pregnancy then there is a need to bring down tsh < 2.5 mu/l. So please clarify. Thanks.
