Monika ji Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. The glucose levels mentioned are very high, showing you have uncontrolled diabetes. This needs to be rapidly brought under control. In a well controlled diabetes FBG should be < 100 mg or closer to 100 mg. PP should be 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c% < 6.5% (not mentioned) The tablets given tend to increase insulin secretion by different mechanisms and help reduce blood glucose levels. Istamet contains Sitagliptin it belongs to DPP -IV inhibitor a drug supposed to increase insulin secretion depending upon presence of glucose coming from food. Metformin helps slow down carbohydrate absorption plus reduces resistance to insulin action. Glimiperide is a sulfonylurea, that directly stimulates Beta cells to produce insulin. Thus each drug has different modes of action. But the objective is to help reduce blood glucose to be moved to muscles and other tissue cells for storage or actual action. Looking at your glucose levels you may have to take both those tablets plus take a properly planned diet, so that intake is restricted. There is no mention of your weight, diet, extent of daily exercise that is being done. No information on lipid profile and BP readings. All these details need to be known to give any suggestions or help improve glucose control. Thanks.Â

Dear lybrate-user, lycomet gp1 has metformin and glimiperide, metformin makes insulin work better and glimiperide stimulates secretion of insulin from your pancreas. Watch out for low sugar symptoms after you have made the change reduce the quantity of carbohydrate (rice, wheat, rava, maida) in each meal and increase the quantity of protein (dhal, egg white, fish or chicken). Monitor blood sugars with glucometer as follows. Fasting and pp on wednesday and 2 hour after lunch and after dinner on sunday and maintain a record. Target fasting < 120 pp < 160 mg/dl if in spite of dietary adjustment you sugar levels continue to be high and if your hba1c is more than 8 % seek a consultation to adjust your anti-diabetic drugs.Â
