Hi sir/mam I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 8 months ago when my tsh was 10, t3, 4 normal and anti tpo was -very. After that I was on 25 mcg thyronorm and my tsh was 3.7.my endocrinologist advised to continue treatment and repeat tsh after 3 months. But due to lock down I waited and did test after 5 and a half months and to my surprise my tsh was 16 which is higher than anytime before as I was taking medicine daily. I wanted to know the reason. Currently I am on 25 now as doc suggested. But thr reason for surge in my tsh explained by my doctor didn't satisfy me. So please tell me the reason in detail also I have body aches (small, tiredness (moderate) and sweating (excess. please suggest ways to cope with these symptoms. Thank you.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. TSH was 10 mU/L and T3 & T4 were normal & Anti TPO antibodies number eas not mentioned. Suppose if that number was high then some times TSH may not be very high. So initially the dosage that was given to control hypothyroidism might have been lower than actual required. I need to know your weight and height to help calculate the dosage of Levothyroxine that was supposed to be given. Since that information is not there, it is difficult to comment. One of the main reasons for increased TSH is inadequate dosing of Levothyroxine. If you have any questions please do come back. However, now there is a need to increase the dosage to at least 50 mcg per day, then check TSH again after 6 weeks. Thanks.

Hypothyroid was in the process of developing when it was diagnosed. Gradually your thyroid gland is producing lesser hormone hence tsh is increased. Now you have to increase the dose of thyronorm and repeat tsh after 6 weeks.

Dear lybrate-user, it appears that you had autoimmune thyroiditis with mild hypothyroidism in this disorder as tiem goes on, there is a need to increase the dose of thyroxine to maintain a tsh of 1-4 uiu/ml. Your other symptoms are probably not related to the thyroid problem and you need to seek a consultation to sort them out. I am sure our doctor has asked you to increase the sode ot 50 ug per day and you should do that
