There nothing unusual ,you have to continue Eltroxine and monitor TSH after 6 weeks. It is not easy to predict that you have to take medicine indefinitely or not.Dont get depressed and take it easy.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I get a feeling that I have already answered the same question some days back. Any ways, please remember if post delivery your hypothyroidism has continued, then taking treatment with adequate dosage of Levothyroxine is a must. The tratment is for lifetime. There is NO ESCAPE> Because tis is a hormonal deficiency disorder. Since this hormone (Thyroxine) is needed for multiple metabolic activities and normal functioning of brain, there is a need for daily supplement for life. When one is on correct dosage TSH is maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. Usual range is 0.5 to 5 mU/L. May Vary a bit on each labs standards. Variation with in the above range has no effect at all. Thanks.

Dear lybrate-user, as explained in my previous reply you probably had a mild tsh elevation in pregnancy of about > 2.5 uiu/ml and therefore started on eltroxine. Usual practice is to stop eltroxine after delivery and reassess thyroid function after 3 months. This will tell us clearly whether you need eltroxine lifelong. The 2 values for tsh after deliver y are in the normal range for a non-pregnant woman and you should not worry about this. When you are breast feeding the child for several months you will not have your periods. This is why I suggesed stopping eltroxine and to recheck free t4, tsh and tpo antiboides 3 months after stopping eltroxine.
