Hi there, I am diagnosed with hypothyroidism during my 7th month of pregnancy. My gynaec suggested me to take thyronorm 25, after that my tsh level came within normal range. Then, after I delivered a baby, my gynaec suggested to stop taking the tablet, as hypothyroidism may go away. Around three and half months of delivery, my tsh was found to be 11.5. Thus I have started taking thyronorm 25 again in the morning empty stomach. Along with this tab, I am taking thyropace tablet and gemcal xt (post pregnancy reason) both after having lunch. Also taking first tablet after dinner (post pregnancy reason). My baby is now 5 n 1/5 months old. You are thus requested to suggest me, whether my treatment is correct, whether I am taking the tablets in correct manner, what else should I do to cure my thyroid problem which is induced during pregnancy.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. Following are my observations. In case of hypothyroidism detected during pregnancy in some cases post delivery hypothyroidism may go away. But not always. Usual advice is to check TSH after 6 weeks of pregnancy and then if it is normal then treatment with Levothyroxine may be discontinued. Since you have stopped the treatment immediately with doing the necessary check up, the problem has been missed. Anyways now you will have to continue taking adequate dosage of Levothyroxine. It is necessary to check TSH again after 6 weeks to see if it has come down to the expected level( 3 to 4 mU/L). Taking other tablets like Calcium is fine. But taking Thyropace has no advantage at all. I am sure you are aware that Levothyroxine needs to be taken alone on empty stomach then nothing to be taken for at least 1 hour.(not even Thyropace, it has no role in hypothyroidism even though company claims so). If yu have any questions please do come back. Thanks.
