My wife aged 64 years was diagnosed as diabetes patient in 2019 july. She was prescribed isryl m1 in the morning and 0.5 mg gemer in the evening. Her blood sugar was being controlled with these medicines. But after 6 months skin rashes started slowly in her body and spread through out. dermatologist was consulted and medicines were given to her. But the spread of rashes did not stop. I have read in the internet some cases have developed similar skin rashes after started taking metformin and after stopping metformin the skin rashes started reducing. Can she stop taking metformin and if so what is the alternate medicine which does not create skin rashes. Her blood sugar is maintain around 125 during fasting and hb1ac is 6.2.please suggest the solution and alternative medicine.

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. It is possible that some may get allergic reaction to any drug including metformin. If that happens then that particular drug needs to be discontinued. But one needs to be absolutely sure about which drug has caused the allergy. Because the tablet given has metformin & glimiperide. Allergy can occur to either of those compounds. So that needs to be confirmed. Secondly in this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines, no drugs can be prescribed.
