Ask her to take proper rest, icing can help. She can also start isometric exercises of knee which will help her to regain strength. It is common at this age having week muscles. If there is no recent trauma, common cause for such is loosening of implant. I suggest you x-ray, along with bone scan. With this we would be able to diagnose the cause of pain. I hope there is no history if fever, swelling or increased temperature in the knee. She should also undergo blood tests like esr and crp and bone scan.
