Hrct or high resolution ct basically uses multiple xrays which are detected by the sensors to produce an image of the body which has much higher resolution than a typical xray of chest. The radiation dose of a typical hrct would be anywhere from 0.7-0.35 msv. To put it in perspective, a typical chest xray has a radiation dose of 0.05 msv. So an hrct would have a dose 7-14 times that of an xray test. Another important fact- you get exposed to 2.5 msv radiation dose from cosmic radiation naturally every year. Ct scan though having a higher radiation dose would not cause any problems if used under medical supervision.
