Hi I am 31 years old. I have thyroid from last 3 months. I have been eating thyronorm 25 mg since last two and half months. Can I i use mustard seeds in my diet as I am preparing a detox drink with lemon mustard seeds and black salt for early morning detox drink. I also want to know if I can do something to keep my thyroid well in control without medication?

Hello, thanks for the query. Madam, hypothyroidism is a hormone (thyroxine, t4), which means your thyroid gland is not producing adequate amount of hormone t4 or thyroxine. Since this hormone is required for majority of metabolic activities in our body, normal functioning of brain. Plus maintaining body temperature and many other actions. So this hormone needs to be supplemented every day without un-interruption. There is no substtute for this. The person having hypothyroidism has to take this (levothyroxine) medication for life time. If one stops it then tsh will go up beyond recommended limit (0.5 to 5 mu/l) and t4or thyroxine level will go down. This will lead to all the symptoms associated with hypothyroidism. So all the things that you want to do are fine, can be done. But do not stop taking levothyroxine. I hope it is clear. If you have any questions please do come back.
