How common are corneal perforations? Actually, I suffer from health anxiety. Lately my eye has been hurting because a mosquito flew into it and I had pain in the eye which kept coming and going. I took moxicip kt eye drops as it was recommended to help. But the second time I used it, I had slight redness which went away as well. However, there is still pain. Now I am still anxious and worried over potential infections, ulcers or even corneal perforation. Please let me know if there's chances of these happening to me. Thank you.

Hello again. An eye doctor will need to look at your eye first before advising you further. If you have on and off redness, consulting an eye doctor (offline or online) is advisable. Occurrence of corneal ulcers and perforations depends on how much damage has been inflicted upon by it in the initial phase only. Mosquito or insect fall is a common cause of the same, a lot of patients of corneal ulcers give this kind of history in our routine clinic. It might not progress to ulcer or perforation if early treatment is initiated. Yet at the same time, it can just be a minor redness which will go away in few days with short term treatment. But one has to definitely take a look first. Hope this helps. Thank you.

I don't think that there is a chance of corneal perforation at all. I think you are over anxious. You don't need any medication just now just close the other eye and see if the vision in the affected eye is ok. Just relax. In case the pain is persisting visit a local eye specialist.

Corneal perforations occur only after injury to eye mostly by a sharp object or any other ocular trauma. Insect injury mostly doesn't cause corneal perforations, it can cause corneal epithelial defect or allergic reactions in your eye. Visit an eye doctor in case of any doubt.
