My mother's bp always goes up and down according to the thyroid levels. If thyroid is high bp also goes up. She got a tsh done which was 0.88. According to it. Bp also went down to 105/65. But doctor started giving 12.5 mg thyrox in place of 25 mg. And telmikind trio is been taken daily. Bp is now 114/67. Is this normal or low. Should I stop giving her bp medicine?

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. Please understand bp of any person is considered normal if it is 100- 130/60 - 80 mm hg. Usually it is said bp should be 120 to 130 / 70 to 80 mm hg. But the range is as mentioned earlier.\bp between 131 to 139/ 81 to 89 mm hg is considered as pre-hypertension. Only when it goes above 141/90 mmhg then there is hypertension or high bp. Usually in hypothyroidism (less active thyroid, where patients t4 is low & tsh is high)& patient is on levothyroxine tablets) bp may a bit lower. In hyperthyroidism (excessively active thyroid where t4 is very high>12 ng/ml & tsh is <0.01 mu/l) patient has rapid heart rate and may have high er than normal bp. Since your mother's tsh is 0.88 mu/l, doctor has recommended a lower dosage of levothyroxine. Which is absolutely correct. Her present bp is quite fine. Tablet telmikind trio has three medications, may be one of those can be reduced if bp remains as mentioned. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.
