Sir, my husband has diabetes and he is taking daily tendia 20 mg and glycomet- gp 0.5 (500 mg). Could you please tell me when both tablets are for sugar, why taking two tablets, is it recommended and if his sugar levels are normal?

I need to know exact fasting, pp glucose levels, hba1c%, lipid profile, height, weight, extent of daily exercise and dietary pattern. By simply saying "glucose is normal" nothing is clear. In quite a few cases even up to four different drugs are needed for controlling the blood glucose. Thanks.

Your husband is actually taking three medications in the form of two medicines. Tendia is a gliptin and it helps to lower your blood sugar by increasing incretin levels. Glycomet gp contains metformin and glimepride. Glimepride helps to lower your insulin by helping pancreas to produce more insulin. Metformin decreases glucose absorption and increases glucose utilisation. Metformin helps to decrease your fasting sugar while glimepride helps in decreasing your sugar after you have food. Depending on your severity one or more drugs may be required. However metformin alone with tendia is advisable if adequate sugar control can be achieved. Metformin and tendia does not cause weight gain while in some cases glimepride can.
