Hi, appreciate your understanding of your own problem. If you take any benzodiazepines (like diazepam) every night, it loses its effectiveness due to tolerance and hence there is a high risk of overdose. What you can do is start melatonin 2 or 3 mg, to take same time every night. Take diazepam but take regular break. Other medications which help are low dose antipsychotics.

Hi lybrate-user, it seems life is making you feel over - whelmed right now because of depression and lack of sleep. But you are already having a medication. Without a prescription, you won't be able to have one more medicine. It's good you have the awareness and you are not over -dosing it. Try to go into the root cause of depression and insomnia. I would suggest you to take counselling sessions along with relaxation therapies. This helps to a lot of people and will have no side - effect. No medication but talk - therapy. Hope you feel better soon, neha pandey.

Poor sleep is a symptom usually. You need to treat the depression then sleep will automatically improve. If the depression is mild, having an activity schedule with exercise, hobbies(things one enjoys eg word jumbles, sudoku, gardening, drawing etc) and time with friends etc can help. In addition, identifying stressful events and one s perception of them and modifying that with the help of regular Cognitive behaviour therapy can help. On the other hand ignoring depression can lead to chronic depression which can impact memory and concentration etc. So treat the cause. The effect of Valium decreases with time anyway
