Hello lybrate-user, I am a rheumatologist, so I thought I will answer this question. First of all, your doctor has correctly prescribed you methotrexate as its the anchor drug for rheumatoid arthritis. It usually takes 6-8 weeks for the drug to take effect. If you do not show desired results then, the dose needs to be increased. If you do not tolerate it then, you might be switched over to other drugs. Ra factor being positive only supports the diagnosis. It will not become negative. And you do not have to worry about making it negative. You just have to get better in terms of inflammation of joints. If your joint disease is controlled then you will lead a normal life. Generally, medicines for rheumatoid arthritis needs to be given for a long duration before your can be labelled as cured. Thats why its better to say that your arthritis is in remission. We usually monitor esr and crp. To see whether disease is in control or not please be assured that its not a great cause of worry. Just keep following your doctor's advise and continue taking the drugs. Do not leave it midway. All my best wishes.
