Hi doctor. I'm a 24 year old student. I had hypothyroidism a few months earlier. My doctor asked me to take the medicine thyronorm 25 mcg for a month. Now its been about 2 months since I stopped taking the medicine. Now i've been experiencing accelerated heart rate like all the time since yesterday. I have my exams after 2 days. I'm definitely not someone who gets too stressed before exams. I doubt that hypothyroidism along with stress is causing release of cortisol and adrenaline is leading to tachycardia. What should I do? Should I restart taking my medicine thyronorm 25 mcg?

Dear lybrate-user, send us details of what the pre-treatment free t4 and tsh levels were, and what symptoms you had. It is possible that you may have only subclinical hypothyroidism which needs only follow-up and no medication

Hello, Thanks for the query. Madam, I have seen the details mentioned. What you have given is very general information, based on which there is no way to decide what is the actual situation. I need to know your current T3, T4 & TSH levels as well as the same levels when you were diagnosed to have hypothyroidism. In case of hypothyroidism heart rate is usually slower than normal. There is no increased heart rate at all. Also let me know why did you stop the medication? Had you checked the thyroid profile at that time? Did the concerned doctor advise you to stop the treatment? Please come back with all the details along with your weight, height, dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise. On going through all the information I will be able to advise. Thanks.
