I am 60 year old and I am post 3 month kidney transplant patients (recipient). My sugar control is bad and recently metformin 500 mg tab twice a day was added by my doctor with ryjodeg and novorapid insulin. Is it really good to take tab of metformin 500 mg with insulin. Does it affect my renal graph? I am really worried about it.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. It is difficult to answer question without having important specific details like serum creatinine, urea and protein levels in urine. Plus there is no mention of fasting, pp glucose levels as well as hba1c%. If you are on insulin degludec, then glucose levels can be very well controlled by increasing the dosage in relation to the fasting and pp glucose levels. It is also possible to add a pre-prandial (before breakfast or lunch) fast acting insulin. As regards metformin, it is necessary to know the above mentioned details. Thanks.
