My boyfriend is 21. He is taking pexep cr 37.5 for anxiety. He is taking the medication for 24 something days. The doctor told us that it'll reduce within 3_4 weeks. He was quite better after 15 something days of the medication. But now his anxiety is increasing again suddenly for a past week or so and for the past two days it's almost as bad as before medicines. Why is this happening even though he's on medication for more than 3 weeks? When would this stop?

There can be 2 possible reasons for his flare up: 1: there is something called ?activation syndrome?, which happens during the initial few weeks while taking the particular group of drug he is taking. It causes and increase in symptoms, which automatically becomes better in a fee days. 2: whatever stress he was going through which led him to having anxiety symptoms, have they returned or worsened? In such case he will have to be reassessed and should also consider seeing a psychologist. (there is good chance it is the former one, you can get him short acting benzodiazepines for the time being while the activation syndrome settles)

The medicines are administered so that if a particular dosage does not work within a period of time, the dosage or medicine is changed. This is a process to determine what is called getting tot he 'optimum dose' which varies from individual to individual. The optimum dose is the correct dose for your bf, and so he should go back to the doctor and report his developments. Sometimes, people may develop tolerance so that a previous dosage may not be sufficient over a period of time and corrections to dosage is necessitated. I also suggest that he seeks the help of a counselor along with the medication to really get out of this condition definitely and soon too.
