In response to your query you are informed that usually surgery or z -plasty is advised for pilonidal-sinus. But it is not a good choice for the reason of recurrence of problem after surgery and other complications. However pilonidal sinus can be completely treated without any complications by graded ksharsutra treatment. In this treatment graded ksharsutra - a specialized medicated thread is placed in pilonidal sinus tract after clinically defining the tract by careful probing or mri sinogram. Medicine released from graded ksharsutra debrides the sinus tract and induces healing. This medicine works for 5-7 days so an old ksharsutra is replaced by a new one at a week or 10 days interval. No. Of graded ksharsutra changes required for complete healing of sinus depends on depth, direction and branching pattern of pilonidal sinus. It is observed that sinus heals @ 0.5 to 1 cm per weekly sitting i.e. To say a sinus tract of 3 cm length usually requires 4-5 weekly sittings. Usually no hospitalization or bed rest is required in this treatment. You can continue your normal routine activities as usual from the very first day of treatment.

Hello lybrate-user, pilonidal sinus needs surgical procedure to cure it permanently. We recommend limberg flap surgery which is having a very good success rate. Any other form of treatment other than surgery is not going to help u.
