The toothache you are suffering from may be due to a variety of causes, the most common being:
1.Tooth decay
2. Tooth fracture
3. A damaged filling
4. Infected gums
The most common cause is a long-standing cavity or tooth decay, which usually requires a root canal treatment (RCT). The same treatment applies to a tooth fracture as well. In case of a damaged filling, there may be two possibilities: either the filling can be removed and replaced with a new one after applying a soothing base material; or if the damaged filling is placed deep near the nerves of the tooth, it may require an RCT.
Infected gums usually are treated with deep cleaning/scaling after which there is permanent relief from pain. You will need to have an antibiotic and painkiller simultaneously for pain relief. Antibiotic will help in reducing the infection and painkiller will take of the pain. Dosage of medicine can be determined only after detailed examination.

Once there is a infection, it is wise to choose dental treatment. As the antibiotic and pain killer suppress the symptom. It will not cure it. Go the dental treatment suggested by dentist.

If the dentist has diagnosed it as some sort of infection .just medication will not help and you will need to treat the source of infection. You need to see your dentist and get the infection treated ASAP. Till then you can take some over the counter pain killer to releive the pain ,but without proper history and examination difficult to prescribe any medication. Please Visit your local dentist at the earliest and try and get it sorted.

pain can not be eradicated via tablet. You need to remove the cause of pain, i.e. Get treatment for your infection.
Pain killers can only suppress the pain for time being but eventually trouble will increase.

But medicines will provide Temporary Relief .
Permanent solution remains treating the problem subject to the diagnosis.
