At age 45, it is better to consult a doctor to see if medication is necessary. You can always do all necessary lifestyle changes to keep under control and maintain without medicine in the long run. But if it is necessary to take medicines for few weeks, do not shy from this. You can always choose to take homeopathy or ayurvedic which will also help a great deal. Rub sole of feet with few drops of coconut oil before sleeping. Have a bath before sleeping. Make sure bed is cool. All to improve sleep duration and depth. This will also help monitor BP. In ayurveda, High BP is also associated with vaata. So make sure you do not eat anything that will burden gas and indigestion. Meditate, a calm disposition is necessary to maintain a healthy BP. Best wishes.
